Returning to the USA via Dublin

What is the situation returning to the USA via Dublin? We are flying from Dublin to Boston and here they are encountering long delays in Dublin due to staffing shortages. Some have suggested using the Verifly app to help make the process more efficient. Can any one share their insights that have recently returned from Ireland? Thanks.

I returned to Boston from Dublin in September and VeriFly ready to go. Dublin airport was not using VeriFly at the time. We had no issues with long delays. Just get there in plenty of time and you'll get home. We are going back again this September - Can't get enough. Enjoy!

It's not the airport that uses Verifly, it's the airlines. And only a few airlines. I know AA and BA use it. So does Aer Lingus.

I've used it three times and it was easy. Just showed my passport and the Verifly app and that was it.

Hi Brent. I returned from Dublin yesterday. The airline suggested you get to the airport 3 hours ahead for security & immigration. I was there 2 1/2 hours prior. Was flying United so had to check in with my passport at the kiosk first. There’s a rep to help expedite that. Upstairs to queue to have your boarding pass scanned, then another queue to pass through Irish security. Next follow the lines to queueUS security then through immigration/ ag passport control. Then off to your gate.
This was Monday 10 am for a 12:15 flight. Total time to get through was 1 1/2 hours. But if you fly on the weekend Friday - Sunday I would expect longer times also if checking luggage- I only carry on.

Hope that helps. Have a good trip

Hi Brent,

I flew from Dublin to Boston in March on Aer Lingus. I was in a group of 4 friends. I did not notice staffing shortage and was quite impressed with the ease of departure. Two of us completed all the steps on the Verifly app including uploading the results of our Covid test from the Travel Health Clinic on Dawson street (20 min results). Two of my companions did not complete a new Verifly "confident traveler' leg for Dublin to Boston even though they had taken the same Covid Test. The difference was probably about 90 minutes in a long line. With Verifily we sailed through baggage check, security and customs. Our travel companions waited in a very long line and were asked if they had taken a covid test but never had to show proof. I imagine another agent may have asked for proof soI wouldn't chance going to the airport without proof of a negative test.

Verifly seems like a pain to complete because you have to wait until the day before departure to complete all the steps and you need good WIFI to upload documents but it was well worth the effort.

We did arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure and with Verifly had plenty of time to browse the duty free shops, find some lunch and enjoy one last Guinness. Happy Travels.
