Returning to Canada from Cork

We'll be spending two weeks in Europe with our first week in Italy, and our second in Cork County. What is the best way to fly in/out of Cork or Dublin?

We can easily fly from Pisa or Milan to Cork, but there are far more return flights to Western Canada from Dublin than Cork or Shannon.

We can either take the train from Cork and fly back from DUB (limited direct flight options so we'd likely transfer in Toronto or Vancouver). Or we can fly ORK to Heathrow, and then fly directly back to Western Canada.

Sounds like you've sorted out the options. From there, I'd probably end up making a choice of personal preference based on price and schedule.

*Train to Dublin might require an overnight to safely meet flight departure times.

The other consideration I'd suggest, without knowing when this trip will be, is whether you want to deal with any possible Covid-related rules the UK might have if you transit home through London. Flying from DUB to a Canadian hub will avoid any complication like that.

Are you looking at the WestJet options from Dublin and London? A word of caution, now that WestJet flies to Heathrow and Gatwick, it's been shuffling itineraries around. A friend had booked the Calgary to Heathrow return flight and WestJet just changed the return flight to depart from Gatwick.

Personally, for a connection I'd rather take my chances with Toronto over Heathrow anyway. Plus WJ does fly direct to Calgary if that's a more convenient airport for you.

We are flying into Calgary. Was considering the direction flights, but we're hoping to leave on Fri or Sat and WJ direct flights are Thurs, Sun or Mon. But based on this a transfer in Toronto sounds like way less hassle!
