Restaurant Recommendations for Cork City, Killarney, & Galway Town

We are staying a couple of nights in each of these Irish communities. Any one have recommendations for restaurants for dinner? We would prefer smaller, inexpensive/moderate expensive (as opposed to fine dining). We would prefer more local food rather than (Italian, Indian, or Asian). Restaurants with Irish music would be a plus. Also are there days of the week when restaurants are closed?

When I was there in May, our favorite restaurant was the Quay Street Kitchen in Galway. They do not take reservations, so if you arrive later in the evening, you may not get a table. We arrived at 5 or 5:30 and had no problem, but it was full by the time we left. It was great food, nice atmosphere, and reasonably priced.

We also liked the Mad Monk in Killarney. You should make a reservation if you go there for dinner. I did this a few weeks before by email.

I believe that both of these restaurants are open for both lunch and dinner everyday. That could change if you are there in the off season.

In Cork, you can have lunch at the English Market. They have a restaurant on the second floor. One side is cafeteria style and the other side is a sit down restaurant. We ate on the cafeteria side. Most people were local business types having a quick lunch. It was fun because you could look down at the market below.

I had a lovely fish and chips dinner at Quinlans Seafood Bar in Cork this past June.

We ate at The Laurels Pub in Killarney, they do have pub food and later, music. We didn't stay late enough to enjoy it. Very fun and friendly! They had one of the best cheeseburgers we ever had!

I know you said no Italian but we were ready for a change in Galway, and had very good food at La Collina. The portions were big and easy to split.
