We will be traveling this summer and there are 6 people in my family. My husband, 2 teenage boys, my sister and 72 year old mom. We would like to drive and all be together. Does anyone have experience renting a minivan? What agency did you use? We have a reservation with rental cars.com - are they reliable? Any other advice? Thank you!
In such a huge vehicle be sure everybody breathes in at the same time when you pass traffic on the very narrow lanes.
I hope your driver is equipped with a sense of adventure! your log in name "berlin" suggests you may be from Germany so hopefully you have experience with driving in Europe. If you are going there from the US be sure to let the driver catch up with his/her jet lag before venturing out for left lane driving in Ireland. My driving was in Scotland up to the highlands and for me a mini van would have been a nightmare, but many folks embrace the challenge! I would load up on insurance coverage because the roads will be much more narrow than you imagine and often bordered by curbing and rock fences covered in plant growth. Extra damage coverage from insurance would have lessened the stress for me. If u are from the us and this is your first experience with left hand driving, roundabouts, and single lane roads I would suggest you visit google earth and then take a look at the route you will be driving on "street view". This was extremely helpful to me as I battled jet lag, clockwise three lane roundabouts, and ventured out of the Edinburgh airport onto the freeway. Hope the street level tip helps.
