Renting a house in Ireland

We are in the beginning stages of planning a family trip to Ireland, next summer. There will be 12 of us ( teens and adults) . This is a two part question. I am wondering if there may be a "house" to rent that would hold all 12 of us, centrally located, that we could "travel out" for day trips from a central house? We will rent a van to travel. Second , i see some have recommended staying in Killarney or Galway for some good day trip locations. All thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I have heard that there are "companies/ services? that will coordinate housing and small day trip
suggestions . Any ideas, suggestions on companies/ organizations like that? Anyone ever used a service like that?

Thanks

Airbnb.com! You get to live like the locals do in an actual house, usually in the countryside with beautiful views. Often the hosts will live nearby or onsite and (especially in Ireland) are very friendly and will want to chat a while. They are a wealth of information and can direct you to good local spots that no guidebook will tell you about! I can't recommend Airbnb enough.

As for where to stay, Galway is definitely a good choice as far as day trips go. Depending on how much time you have, you may want to split your time between two houses, one near Galway and the other somewhere on the East coast, or maybe Northern Ireland, so you can see the most of the country!

We are renting a cottage right outside Killarney called Killarney Lakeland Cottages in September. There are several cottages in the group of various sizes. The benefit over air bnb and similar sites is that the owner/caretaker is right on the property. I was referred to it from someone who uses it every year.

Suggest also taking a look at www.homeaway.com and its sister site at www.vrbo.com. We've had good luck with those in the past.
We also booked a few properties thru http://www.shamrockcottages.co.uk/ during our last trip to Ireland. Some very nice properties there.
The areas around Galway and Killarney would indeed be good choices as bases to explore Connemara and Kerry. My suggestion would be to look for something in the countryside, (ie outside the cities) to simplify your daily explorations. Traffic in the towns can be a bit daunting, especially once the tour buses start to roll...and especially in a large vehicle as you propose. With that in mind you might consider breaking up your party into 2 or 3 cars - it's a lot easier to negotiate some of the rural roads in a small or medium size car than in what is effectively a mini-bus.

Were in Ireland now and I've observed a couple of large family groups who seem to have hired a 12 passenger mini van and driver for a family tour from CIE. You might start with them for a quote for transportation for outings.

Thank you for that. I have googled CIE and now have their contact info. Enjoy your trip.
