Rental vs. hired driver

We are a family of twelve ages, 10-78, planning a two week, 2023 trip in Ireland.
We are debating whether to rent two minivans or hire a driver. Once we leave Dublin we will be staying no more than two nights in each location. We will have three to four drivers available because of our ages. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

You will need more than two minivans. You will not be able to fit luggage for six people, plus six people, in a minivan. Even if you pack light, each person will have a carryon plus a personal bag/backpack.

We are a family of four and we own a minivan. We’ve also used minivan taxis while traveling. If any of you own a minivan or know someone who does, give it a test runs with all that luggage.

I would suggest 3 vehicles, one of which would include a minivan for the luggage. You would then have 4 people per vehicle. Believe me, that’s even tight with luggage. The minivan will give you more space for luggage. You also need to think about any shopping you might do along the way (souvenirs, groceries, etc.

I would also look into a private tour. Leave the driving to someone else. Everybody piles in a minibus. Car rental is Ireland is very expensive (don’t forget the insurance), so it may work out financially.

I once hired a coach company for 8 days for 20 people, as we were moving around a bit. It might be more than you would want to pay but it would sure be easy, with plenty of room for 12 people and everyone traveling together. PM me if you want more info on what I did.
