Rental car pickup outside of Dublin

We are planning to fly into Dublin in May, take a taxi into town, and stay for a few days. After that, we want to pick up a rental car and drive to Belfast and up the coast of Northern Ireland. Where is the best place to pick up a rental car on the way out of Dublin, so the traffic isn't too bad, and my husband can get used to driving on the left?

if you are flying home later from Dublin the airport would be the way to go. You will be north of the city if you return to the airport to get the car and transport to the airport from downtown Dublin is easy with numerous options. I guess the key to my argument may be where are you staying the night before your flight home.

We just took the bus into Dublin. It was inexpensive and dropped us off at St.. Stephens Green. We picked our rental up at the airport. It was easy leaving town and heading north. We drove to Crawfordsburn which is east of Belfast. From there we did the Antrim coast (Carrick-a-Rede bridge and Giant’s causeway) and took a tour of the Bushmill’s distillery.

There's actually a Hertz location (Dublin City Centre - 151-157 South Circular Road) that's about a five minute taxi ride from Dublin proper. It's on the outskirts of town. We picked up a car at this location, jumped on the M50, went around the city, picked up the M1 north to Belfast. Easy. We returned the car to the airport at the end of our trip.

Just posting another option.
