Rental Car Drop off

We are doing Rick Steve's 3 week circuit of Ireland and were not sure if he suggests dropping off the car at Dublin. He recommends picking it up in Glendalough; but is it recommended to just drop it off at the Dublin Airport?

Undoubtedly will incur some increased fe for the distant drop off.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks, Pat

There is no rental car agency in or near Glendalough. Believe the RS guide may have been talking about picking up the vehicle in Dublin (probably the airport) and then driving down to the monastic settlement...about a 1+20 drive from the airport.
Believe that Dan Dooley has an office on the outskirts of the city that also precludes having to drive in city traffic. He's gotten pretty good reviews from other posters on this forum.

We picked up and dropped off at the airport without any issues... We flew in to Dublin, spent 3 days and pick dup the car on the way out of Dublin

Drop fees within Ireland are small anyway. We paid under €10 to pick up in the south suburbs of Dublin and drop at Shannon and a similar amount this time to pick up at Shannon and drop at the airport in Dublin.

Thank you all for your reply.

Yes, I think I mis interpreted Rick's guidebook and think one needs to rent in Dublin to follow his suggested holiday route. Think I will check out this Dan Dooley.

We rented from Avis and picked up at the airport in Dublin then drove to Glendalough. After driving a two week circuit we dropped off on the northern edge of Dublin and took a taxi into the city to spend the last two days. Nominal drop off fee. Worked very well.

We rented from Budget and picked up and dropped off the car at the airport. Easy access to highway to leave from the airport and also easy to return. It would probably be easier, quicker, and more convenient to do this than to get to Glendalough to pick up the car.
