Religious sites during 14 day Best of Ireland

Looking for any comments re visiting religious sites during the 14 day Ireland trip. We would like to visit the sites. Looks like the tour guides participants through a few and is your free time ample enough to visit additional sites on your own? Thanks

Not sure if your tour will make its way into Mayo, but the Knock Shrine may be along the lines of what you’re hoping to see. I haven’t been there, so I can’t offer anything more helpful or insightful.

Clonmacnoise is really worth a visit. It has the history (medieval cathedral and chapels dating back to the 900s), scenery (River Shannon flows alongside), architecture (two round towers), and even modern religious connections (one pavilion was built for John Paul II’s Mass that he said here). We were there on a rainy Monday afternoon in October, and there were just three other cars in the parking lot, so I really enjoyed feeling like I might have been dropped back in time—old sites in the wet with no one else around does that to me!

It might be helpful to provide examples of what types of religious sites you are wanting to see that are not listed in the tour itinerary. Based on my experience on this tour, if you have particular things you want to see during your free time, let your guide know as they can help you figure out if you have time to visit (not all stops will have enough time).

I saw this when you first posted it and it kind of stumped me. Then last night I was watching a very old RS program on Western Ireland and he showed the Gallarus Oratory which we did visit on this tour. We also visited a ruined abbey nearby on this full day tour from Dingle. I have a cool picture of a cemetery stone with a hole in it used as a sundial but I've not got the location labeled.

I agree that it might be easier to answer your question if you've got some in mind that you want to see.
