If I book online for Irish Rail or Bus Eireann with my SMART phone, can I just use my reference number from the receipt online or do I need a confirmation paper copy as well?

Rules can vary by country, type of train, and fare paid. I'm not up on all the variables for Ireland, but the booking site should tell you the ticket "delivery" options before you complete check-out.

Well unless they changed things since last summer... you have to collect the ticked before travelling either at a ticket machine or at the ticket desk.

Yea Jim, I got that. I show them my C.C. and reference # and get the ticket at the counter.
