Recommendations for driver/guide/tour company

Hi -- I am looking for a two-three night private tour of western/Southern Ireland (like Galway, Ring of Kerry, Connemara, Cliffs of Moher). Ideally they would book accommodations, have private driver/guide, etc. Having a bit of trouble so far. Found one but reviews are a bit mixed. Would love suggestions on this. I found a similar tour of the Pelopennese recommended in Rick's Greece book, but not finding the same in the Ireland book.

At this point, I wish I could just drive, but I know that driving on the other side of the road is beyond me!

I used Custom Irish Tours several years ago for a day trip. The driver (whose name I can no longer remember), was great, as was communication and service. We were able to make changes on the fly as time and interests changed. The company also does multi-day private trips. The owner, Derek Smith, was recommended to me by a former RS Ireland guide. https://www.customirishtours.com/the-experience/

I think Rabbies does private tours.

We did a 10 day tour of Ireland with Gate 1 Travel, cost was about $2000 pp. The tour was top notch and great/

Also, we have done a Rabbies tour in Cornwall and Devon and it was excellent as well. Under Rabbies, you pay for your lodging and most meals separately. They do. help you with reserving lodging.

Warm greetings from Ireland
Thankfully theres an abundance of small Irish-owned tour-operators offering excellent quality private tours, usually at very reasonable prices.
(note: when factoring in your costs and prices, remember that the driver-guide will have 3 meals a day to be covered and factored in and restaurants and cafes in Ireland are good quality but not cheap, plus diesel costs of maybe €50-75 per day, and of course a decent hotel or B&B room for him/her could cost around in €150-200 per night, especially in peak season and most especially in the highly-popular locations you want to visit like Galway and the Ring of Kerry)
At certain times of year, especially July and August, there can be very high demand and most are booked out.
If you dont want to travel in a mini-coach and prefer say a 7 or 8 seat private tour-vehicle, be sure that the operator you choose is an SPSV (Small Public Service Vehicle) operator with an SPSV licensed driver & vehicle, otherwise its breaking the law and you wont be insured in the unlikely event of an accident. SPSV operators have tamper-proof green discs on front and back window, but I wouldnt worry too much because any unlicensed operator would most certainly not be advertising their services for fear of getting prosecuted.
A private tour of the west of Ireland, with the freedom to stop off whenever you like and connect with locals (and your Irish guide) sounds like a perfect holiday. Enjoy! .... I know you will :)
Any specific questions, just let me know, always happy to answer them.

We are doing a RS tour of Ireland that starts in Ennis. Is it worth it to spend 2-3 days before we start?? If so what are you ideas? The tour stars on May 24, 2026. I have driven in New Zealand so I can drive in Ireland if needed.

Thx, Steve
