Can anyone help me with realistic driving times from Killarney to Ashford Castle? We are two older ladies, so we may not drive as fast as the Google Maps times figure, and we need to be at the Castle for tea at 2:00pm.

Google maps says 3+08 hours, but much of the drive is along some of the National N roads, with the last stretch being on one of the rural R roads which can be very slow indeed. Most here suggest adding about 30% to the optimistic drive times you see posted on any of the online mapping apps, so that would make it closer to 4+30 hrs of actual driving. And if you're extra cautious you might want to add a bit on to that.

The route without tolls is about 3.5 hours and with the smaller Irish country side roads, I would allow for an additional 30ish minutes. So, I don't know what your plans are for that morning before your tea, but my personal recommendation would be to leave early morning from Killarney and arrive at Ashford Castle maybe around 11am or noon... Ashford is an incredible estate with beautiful walking grounds and amazing history. The early arrival would give you time to explore and take a leisurely walk through the grounds or even a chance to explore the quaint town of Cong, where many scenes from the movie The Quiet Man, with John Wayne, was filmed, if thats something you might be interested in. I hope you enjoy your tea! It was absolutely one of my mom and I's favorite memories of our whole family vacation!
