I am headed to Dublin for a 10 day visit in a few weeks and want to visit the UK while there— since I am from the US and do not need a Visa to enter Ireland — what do I need to do to go to UK and return to Dublin?

To go to the UK, you will need to do the following.....nothing. Your entrance into Ireland also grants you access to the UK. There is no immigration in the UK when entering from Ireland.
On your return to Ireland, you will go through Irish immigration again. But it won't be a problem.
