My husband and I are planning to take a day trip to Kilkenny from Dublin. We will be there in March, so the sun will go down around 6:30. We will return to Dublin after dark. Our hotel will be in City Centre. Is the Heuston train station and Luas safe after dark , or should we get a cab? I appreciate your help so much.
Yes, the station and the local bus or LUAS (depends where in the city center your hotel is) is safe after dark. Just use your common sense, as you would anywhere after dark. Dublin is a very safe city for tourists.
I was just there in June.
If there are two of you, you should be fine.
I was on my own, came out of the station around 6:30 pm…it was still sunny…and a group of drunk young guys started shouting at me “Hey, American Lady, hey …hey…how was your train trip”.
I just ignored them and went straight to the taxi stand to get to my hotel.
There were plenty of people around apart from these louts.
By the way, the taxi stand is not obvious.
If you exit the front of the station, it’s around the corner to the right.
There should be an exit, which I missed, to the right as you leave the track area.
