Purchasing Train Tickets at Heuston Station

My wife and I are flying into Dublin Airport. We will then head to Heuston Station to take a train to Galway. Do we need to purchase our train tickets online in advance or can we purchase them at the station? We are concerned that if we purchase the train tickets in advance and our plane is delayed, then we might miss the train for which we had made a reservation.

We have the same question/concern. What happens if you miss your train? Can we get bumped to the next train with availability? or do you have to adjust the time in advance? I know some of the tickets (depending on price) can be adjusted up to 60 mins prior to train departure time.

We waited to book train tickets to remain flexible coming off our flight. Glad we did because our flight was delayed by a day and that would have put us out the 50euros if we had prebooked. It was about 10euros difference for prebooking and day-of tickets to Killarney. We took a taxi from the airport to Hueston and bought tickets online through our phones while having a coffee and snack at the station. It is much more expensive to buy them from the ticket counter day-of. Traveled April 2022.

Or if you want to avoid having to go all the way into Dublin and then transfer to a train you could take the bus that picks you up in front of Terminal 2 at the airport and deposits you at the Galway Bus Depot. Takes about 3 hours. Several different bus lines, including Aircoach, https://www.aircoach.ie/?msclkid=760e7fd9cd9d11ec968160a6cfcafdce, and Citylink, https://www.citylink.ie/?msclkid=d2524a30cd9d11ec83ebf7326fd1e73d. Buy tickets at the kiosk or on board the bus.

Flexible tickets are also availble on-line at a higher cost. Today, I noticed that three types of tickets, based on flexibility, cost the same. There may be a deal to be had.
