Purchasing a Car versus Renting - Dublin Airport

We purchased a cottage outside of Dingle in Dunquinn. Where they filmed Ryan's Daughter and parts of the Star Wars Movies. That was the easy part.

Our costs for renting a car for a month was/is significant. Question: Is there a cheaper way to rent a car for a month with full insurance? Or in the alternative. What about buying a car and storing it a parking facility near the Dublin Airport? Thinking about buying a Ford Galaxy Diesel, a three row SUV.

Any thoughts would be especially helpful to us. Not familiar with Dublin.

why not leave your car at your cottage?

Could you provide clearer information about the amount of time you plan to stay in Ireland and hence the time periods when you will need your car? If you've purchased a cottage, will you be living in it year round, or only for short periods (for example, renting it out the rest of the time)?
