Public Transportation

I will be staying in Dublin from 3/31/16: I would
like to find out how I can get to Moyle More, County
Monaghan by any form of public transportation. My
mother was born in Moyle More, and I would very much
like to be able to trace her footsteps. And I would prefer
not to rent a car!
Can someone help me please and thank you.

Shirley, as you may have gathered by now, a car is the best way to move about in Ireland. Of course, some are understandably daunted by the idea of driving there-as was I and I lived to tell about it. It was not without its challenges!

Looks like it's about an hour and a half by car, and it may be worth it to you to find a private driver for the day, or to drop you and pick you up a few days later. Others on the Forum may have a suggestion for a driver, and you'd get a built in tour guide perhaps, too.

You could also try the Bus Eireann Journey Planner to look at bus possibilities, not sure if trains go there or not.

If you're only going to one place and staying for awhile, check out bus service from Dublin. It should be affordable and work well to get you to Moyle More. If you need to drive once you get there, I'd follow the suggestion of a rental car.
