There's an easy bus. There is a great website where you can put in where you are and where you are heading. https://www.dublinbus.ie/Route-Planner/. I think you can take Bus #40.

We just did this. The fare is 2.70 euros one-way--be sure to have coins and exact change. Check carefully for the stop to get off--you want the one AFTER "Old Kilmainham." It's called "Emmet Road, Luby Road." Be sure to visit the exhibit in the Gaol Museum at the end of the tour. They have special rooms on the 1916 rebellion.

And if you need a pick-up after the tour, walk down to the Patriots Inn Pub on the corner. You may even be able to join in a game of darts.
