pub crawl in Dublin?

It is highly recommended to book a music pub crawl in Dublin - the tour has us there for 2 nights, and the first night is the first group dinner, so the only night it works is the 2nd night. Only problem - it is already sold out. Any recommendations for other pub/music ideas?

This came up on my tour in 2010. Based on when we had our group dinner, I would have been able to leave dinner a little early to make the Musical Pub Crawl. As it turns out, I elected to stay with the group.

I did take the Pub Crawl this past June when I was in Dublin on my own. Very enjoyable.

We did Dublin at the end of our 8 day tour and the music/ pub crawl was a bit of a let-down because our guide, Dara, had already introduced us to so much great music, in pubs. I think we wished we'd opted for something else, whether it was a sporting match, a distillery tour or a play. Of our tour of 28, only four of us did a the pub crawl. One group did a play, another one did an Irish dance performance and another did a late distillery tour. If you do a music/pub crawl, make sure you get toward the front of the stage. On our 3 red stop we were towards the back and couldn't hear the conversation very well.

You're in for a great trip!

Greetings from Ireland, theres an abundance of pub-crawls these days in Ireland. In Dublin, be careful you don't end up on one that has 50 backpackers on it (for free) and are completely out-of-their-minds drunk by half-way.
Irish people can never understand why tourists seek pub-crawls and don't just go to the pubs and meet local people for free, so expect some mild ridicule or teasing from locals if you tell them you are going on or have been on a pub-crawl and have paid for it.
However, there is a good value in pub-crawls in the sense you meet other interesting travellers, meet some locals who lead the pub-crawl and you also get some pretty good information and music/literary-info...
If the major pub-crawls are sold-out, Id leave it and just go to a few pubs.
If you are taking a Rick Steves tour, your guide will introduce you to music and pubs that far exceed anything that can be offered on a pub-crawl.
