I elected not to rent a car while on a recent trip to Ireland due to the super high rental costs and gas costs. Instead I utilized local drivers/chauffeurs. I can heartily recommend these two folks who operate out of the Doolin area (Sean Cullinan drove us from Dingle to Doolin), and who also do smaller taxi services (Peter drove us from Doolin to Shannon Airport). I was able to pay by credit card link for both which was also helpful:
