Private Car & Driver - Portrush, N. Ireland

We will be arriving in Portrush Harbour on Monday, September 3rd (2018) and will be in port for about 12 hours. The tours offered by the ship don't cover everything we'd like to do and all are only about 4 hours and we are in port for 12.

We are looking to hire a car + driver for the day (probably 8 hours). Can anyone recommend a professional company/service that offers this?

I've read a bunch of other posts and realize that yes, there is public transportation and other options to get around, but we do not want to rely on public transport and potentially miss a bus, etc and not make it back to port on time; my husband would like to be able to see the views and not have to keep his eyes on the road should we rent a car; we don't want to be tied in to a specific tour because we are avid hikers and would like to be able to get out and move around for as long as we want at the various sites and not be limited to a 15 minute stop etc.

Read through Cruise Critic and some other sites, seems like everyone says take public transport or rent a car and that we'd be lucky to find a reputable driver who was trustworthy. Bummer, so if you know of any please let me know!

I think you can solve your issue by using a combination of the Causeway Rambler and a taxi to get to key sites, but also relieve any anxiety you have about getting back to your cruise. The 402 bus runs about every 30 minutes from Port Rush. It goes to Dunluce Castle, Port Ballintrae, Bushmills, and the Giants Causeway.

You mentioned you like to hike. One particularly nice walk is from Port Ballintrae to The Giant’s Causeway along the beach and then over some headlands. When you are done at The Causeway, take the bus back. Worried about time., grab a taxi.
