We'll be taking the Heart of Ireland tour in Sept, with extra days pre and post tour. The website says that the first hotel (Woodstock) is outside of Ennis, and they reccd staying in Ennis pre tour. Any recommendations? We'll only have one pretour day, so weren't planning on renting a car, I assume we can take a taxi to the hotel, I believe it is only 4 km out.

Two years go, we stayed at the excellent Glenomra House B&B, but there was a possibility that it wasn’t going to remain open, depending on what was happening with the family of Mary, the owner. It’s a 15-20 minute walk south of the very center of town along the O’Connell St/Clare Road, easily done on the sidewalks. If they’re still open, I highly recommend staying there, and breakfast is superb. That’s the first place I’ll seek if we visit Ennis again.

Last year we stayed at the Old Ground hotel for our heart of Ireland tour. It was lovely. The tour did not spend any time in Ennis besides our first dinner so I would suggest seeing the lovely town of Ennis before the tour.
