We will be driving from Portrush to Belfast via the scenic Coastal Route. How long will it take compared to the more direct route?
Please give drive time without stopping.
Check Google maps or ViaMichelin. Either will give you a good idea.
We drove the coastal route in 2015. Beautiful drive though I was a bit white-knuckled due to driving a rental car on the "wrong" side of the road. We stopped at Carrick-a-Rede and the Giants Causeway along the way. Must-sees in my book. Based on the map, I say the coastal drive itself would add at least an hour, maybe a little more. making it a 3-hour drive instead of 2 hours via inland.
Thank you Lew, that’s about what I estimated. Did you drive the entire way via A-2? My searches for driving times all seemed to want to drive part way on the coast and then head down to Antrim and then on to Belfast from there.
Michael,
As best I recall, we drove on the coastal route all the way. We were going from Belfast to Portrush, where we stayed for 4 days to visit with a distant cousin I met via the Internet. If I were going back (and I hope I do), I'd take the dramatic coastal route again.
