We plan to Stay in Portumna the night before we catch our riverboat we have rented. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a place to stay for 4 people? I am having troubles finding openings. We will not have a car and was hoping to stay in the town.

Assuming you're renting a LeBoat, can you delay your arrival by a day? You can "claim" your vessel around 3pm (earlier, if you pay for early check-in). You can just stay at the dock for the night if you get there too late to make it to another harbor. It's unlikely, but possible, that the previous charter returns early, and you can move aboard a full day early - you'd have to call them to arrange such a thing. We're planning a charter next Spring, and Portumna is a pretty difficult place to get to unless you use a LeBoat provided airport shuttle. For four, it's cheaper to rent a car and leave it in the carpark for a week than pay for the shuttle twice, which is what we're doing, although we plan to drive around S. Ireland after the charter. Carrick-on-Shannon is easier to get to and the river is more interesting on the northern portion, IMHO. Enjoy your trip!
