We are planning to stay in Ennis the night before we fly home (US) from Shannon Airport. I made a reservation at Temple Gate Hotel, but I have since read many negative reviews of it. Can anyone recommend an alternative? The date is Tuesday, September 15. The Old Ground Hotel is completely booked.

I really liked our stay at Ashford Court Hotel. It's a big of a walk (15 mins) into town, but we really enjoyed our stay.

The Poets Corner Bar at the Old Ground Hotel was the best pub we found in our 12 days in Ireland. Hands down. We liked the Old Ground.....food was good....staff was great.
Another alternative might be the Bunratty Castle Hotel.....it's closer to the airport and it's just across the road from the Bunratty Castle with it's "Traditional Irish Night" and the "Medieval Banquet".

Our stay last September at
temple Gate was exemplary. A fine hotel with a helpful staff, good restaurant and its own pub. Over five days we enjoyed it thoroughly, including the made-to-order breakfasts included in our room rate. Close walking distance to downtown Ennis, also. If you're only going to be there one night I'd risk it.

I HIGHLY recommend Newpark House, it is about a 5 minute drive outside of Ennis (or so say the locals but we felt like it is right there in what we consider "in town") We have stayed at Newpark House twice and had a great stay each time.
I also second the recommendation to eat at the Poets Corner in Ennis; great food and atmosphere. Enjoy your stay, we will be in eastern Ireland a week after you.
