Pigeon Hole Cave in Cong, Ireland

Looking to plan an afternoon in a beautiful moss-covered woods with an interesting cave to explore. We will be on the west-coast, near Galway and Doolin and Killarney so looking in those general areas. Has anyone ever been to Pigeon Hole Cave in Cong? Is it worth it? Doolin Cave seems a bit small and Ailliwee Cave is really expensive (around $60) and I'm looking for something a little more low-key to explore. Thank you for any tips or suggestions!

Just took a look at what the Pigeon Hole Cave is as we were in Cong last year, and based on picture, it looks like a pretty cool hike. Wish I had known about it then to give it a looksy. With that said, it looks like the entrance was blocked off in spring 2023 with no search indicating that it has opened up again. Just mention it in case you want to confirm that it is open (and if you already know, then that's good).

The last Trip Advisor review was 2023 with the comment 'still closed'.

If you are in Cong it may be worth going into the Visitor Centre in the Old Couret House on Abbey Street and asking them. They have a phone number but don't seem to have an email contact.

Yes, I saw that note about it being blocked off and am trying to confirm before going!

Just wanted to give an update: I sent an email to a general address I found on the County Mayo site and it was forwarded from their Communications Department to a "Staff Officer, Tourism, Recreation & Amenity". I was informed that "the route is open." And then they forwarded this link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AHpxcnoQ4GDpYqbv8.

I had specifically said I wanted to go into the cave, but I was simply told that "the route is open." Not sure if the officer just put that link in and it shows as being open so is generally telling me the hiking route is open... which doesn't necessarily mean the cave is...I think we're going to risk it and see for ourselves...
