Ireland is a great place to see and visit. People are generally very friendly and nice, but-in dublin use a money belt etc. pickpockets abound and they are good. was robbed. you do not know. beware !!!! Rick advises to be aware. Do so to have a good trip.
Excellent advice Bob!
Similar experience during my visit to Dublin. Witnessed a purse snatching in broad daylight right smack in the middle of Grafton Street. Dublin has some heroin issues and there are junkies in need of quick cash.
Welcome to the forum. Thank you for sharing your experience, and always good to wear a money belt when traveling to large cities.
Your post is a good reminder on the fact that it's prudent to have (and use) a Money Belt, as pickpockets operate in many places in Europe.
"Dublin has some heroin issues and there are junkies in need of quick cash."
Unfortunately heroin (and stronger drugs) seem to be a universal problem in many small towns or large cities all over the world. They're the scourge of modern life, unfortunately.
Dublin is a small, safe city. You just need a bit of common sense and you'll be fine.
Heroin is of course available everywhere, but sadly Ireland leads Europe in its use:

I live inNew York City and have witnessed much crime there. I am a lucky one who has been essentially crime free. Heroin addiction is again on the rise world-wide. The addicts need funds to get their fix so theft occurs. There is no implication that the Irish are thieves, but my post is to help make people more vigilant and take more precautions concerning their valuables. I hope I have learned. I just want people to be aware.
