Ok so with coming from NY and landing in Dublin with 5 days (counting our arrival day) .... I am trying to think of that one day trip. do we do close to dublin and do glendalough, wicklow and kilkenny or newgrange and boyne valley or can we do a one day to the west. Originally we were thinking of when we landed to go from dublin to galway but I don't think we want to do that. I know the one day visit to see the Cliffs of Mohers will be long but part of me isn't against it since we can sleep on the bus and then getting back to dublin at least we don't have to travel the next day. any one day trips, even though long (via car or bus) that can worth it. can be a quaint town or cliffs ...
What time do you land? the group day tours from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher leave Dublin City Center around 7:00 AM. Perhaps there's a trip that leaves from the airport, but I haven't researched it. Any organized day trip to Glendalough etc. or Newgrange will similarly leave the City Center fairly early, 8:00 or 9:00 I think. I'm hoping you aren't planning on driving yourself to any of those places after a trans-atlantic flight.
Brú na Bóinne is closer to Dublin. You can sign up for a half day tour at the visitor center.
You can do a day trip to Belfast.
We are looking at doing a very long 14 hour guided Kerry Tour from Dublin. We realize it's a super long day but it's unlikely my Mom will be back to Ireland so we're using the opportunity to see as much as we can.
Could be an option if you're in the same boat.
We were in Dublin for a total of 5 days in August 2018 and did a day trip to Bru na Boine/Newgrange as well as Cliffs of Mohr. The tour we used for Newgrange was Newgrange Tours By Mary Gibbons. The tour company we used to go to Galway and the cliffs was the Dublin Tour Company (RS Ireland Book recommended). Had a great time and was well worth the long day. So glad we saw them. Newgrange was awesome too.
We did two one-day trips from Dublin last month. One was to Newgrange, Boyne Valley, etc.
The other was to the Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle, and Cahill Castle.
Both were through Irish Day Tours. Both were excellent, and I'd recommend either of them.
The Boyne Valley one was better for fabulous landscapes and ancient history. It involves more walking and a somewhat strenuous climb, if that's a consideration.
The other was busier and a bit of a longer day, but the Rock of Cashel and Blarney Castle were both incredible.
