One Day Between Dublin & Adare

We have one day to see sights along the way between the Dublin airport and Adare. We plan to leave Dublin airport with rental car by 9am and need to be in Adare by 6pm. Any votes for Gardens of Powerscourt, Glendalough, Kilkenny, Rock of Cashel...???

As background, we're traveling at the end of August. This is our first (and sadly very short) trip to Ireland. We are spending two days in Dublin first and then three days in Adare for a wedding. We want to see as much as possible, but at a comfortable and enjoyable pace. Hence we need to make some choices. Thanks in advance for your ideas and recommendations!

Is it possible for you to pick up your rental car in Dublin? It was a bit hectic driving out of Dublin but more convenient for us. We then drove through the Sally Gap (which is a lovely drive) to Glenalough. If it were me I would spend the day at Glenalough viewing the monastic sites and hiking/walking to the see the Lower and Upper Lakes. (You could also drive to the Upper Lake to save time.) If you shorten your time at Glendalough you could stop at the Rock of Cashel on your way to Adare. If you do decide to go to the Rock of Cashel, take a walk through Hore Abbey which sits below the rock and worth a visit.

Agree with Barbara, Sally Gap, Glendalough and Rock of Cashel in route to Adare. Watch out for sheep and be prepared to stop for many pictures. Truly gorgeous drive! Since you will be in Adare for three days and the Dingle Peninsula is a mere 1 hour and half hours away you need to consider seeing it. Stunning coastline. Just saying.
