From today's NYT:
The library, visited by as many as a million people a year, had been
needing repairs for years, but the 2019 fire at Notre Dame cathedral
in Paris was an urgent reminder that it needed to be protected,
according to those involved in the conservation effort.Faced with the example of Notre Dame, and the realization that
something similar could happen to an Irish national treasure, the
government pledged €25 million, with the college and private donors
adding €65 million more.Work started in April, and in October 2023, the Old Library’s doors
will close to visitors for at least three years as it moves into full
gear.
