Is there a guided tour of Northern/western Ireland that caters to single travelers and isn't "driving" in a coach for long distances?
Check out Vagabond tours of Ireland. They offer a Northern Ireland tour by small mini bus. (I think 16 is the max). they have a 6 day Northern Ireland driftwood tour that may fit your needs. https://vagabondtoursofireland.com/tour/6-day-northern-ireland-tour/. I travelled with this company in 2015 (West Coast of Ireland) and have had other friends travel with them since. They are very professional and great value. It was one of my favorite vacations! 2018 dates are out.

I've looked at Footfalls Holidays' N. Ireland guided itinerary. A mix of walking and free time.

They seem well-organized and get good reviews.
Margaret,
I investigated your suggestion. How did you get from the airport to the hotel?
The tour picks up from a couple of hotels in Dublin area. There were four of us so we took a Taxi. But it would be expensive to do this if you were just on your own. I would suggest you take the bus to the Hotel. Airlink or Aircoach come to mind. You can book ahead or buy a ticket at the airport. I think a round trip from airport to city center is about 13 Euros. We stayed at the Grand Canal Hotel as this is one of the Hotels the tour company pick up from. Its about a 15-20 minute walk into Dublin city center (but you can get on the bus route that drops off outside hotel). If you plan a trip make sure you arrive a day or even two before your are scheduled to join the tour, and you will need to stay the last night somewhere in Dublin before flying out the next morning.
Thanks everyone .
