Northern Ireland self drive or bus tour?

Hi
My husband would like to see some of the GOT sites in NI. I would like to see the Giant's Causway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. There are several organized tours out of Dublin to see all in a very long day. My question is should we just drive ourselves or pay to go on a tour?

We are very comfortable driving a manual shift car on the other side of the road and we know that there will be an extra charge for driving the rental car into NI.

Thanks for any help.

There is no extra charge for simply driving a vehicle in NI. The only added expense would be a one-way drop charge if you rented a vehicle in the Republic and dropped it off somewhere in NI.
Having a car would give you much more freedom to meander, explore, and go at your own pace.
I would recommend spending a night or two someplace relatively central (Portrush for example) and then enjoying things at a more relaxed pace. Would be a shame to not visit Derry - one of the prettiest cities you'll see, and one with a long and sometimes tortured history.
Safe travels.

Hi,
I just came back from Ireland a few weeks ago. I did a full day tour out of Dublin with Wild Rover Tours.

Loved it and I didn't have to drive.
7 am departure from Dublin area near Trinity College. They had another stop across the river.
Tour guide talked about what sights we were passing.
Our first location was Belfast. Options are either a Black Taxi Tour or the Titanic Museum.
Next stop, Giants Causeway. Then the rope bridge. We made it back right before 8 pm. I paid 70 euro and I felt it was worth what I saw and also the fact that I didn't have to drive.
Have a fun adventure in Ireland.

Vick and Robert In the fine print of both dollar and thrifty it states that there is a 30€ charge to drive the rental car into NI. I think Dan Dooley states that is does not charge an extra fee but overall it is more expensive.
