Northern Ireland iLink Zones

Rick Steves Forum Members,

My brain is exhausted from exploring various transportation options in Northern Ireland, so I am asking someone to please confirm my understanding of the iLink Zone 4 pass in Northern Ireland. Am I reading the information correctly that the Zone 4 pass is valid on buses and trains throughout Northern Ireland?

I am trying to get our travel itinerary solidified, as we are going from Belfast to Derry/Londonderry, Derry/Londonderry to Portrush and back to Derry/Londonderry, and then Derry/Londonderry to Belfast, and then will be in Belfast for three days. It seems to me that the iLink Zone 4 pass would be the most cost effective travel option.

Your help is most appreciated.

Yes,

Zone 4 covers the whole of the Province (as higher numbered zones also include the lower numbered ones by default).
Yes that is by some way the most cost efficient and easiest way to do it.

The iLink Pass is WONDERFUL. We landed at George Best, bought it at the information desk, and from there on in, Northern Ireland was our oyster.

We did much the same as you with a few tweaks. We railed it to Coleraine, bussed it to Bushmills and then zipped back and forth on the bus for a few days on that coast, including a stop at the Portrush golf course. Then we took the train from Coleraine to Derry, stayed there for a few days, and bussed ourselves to Belfast (we think we should have just returned on the train). The iLink covered all.

Our iLink Pass ended by the time we got to our 4-Day stay in Belfast, and we considered renewing it, but it turned out that our feet did just fine in very walkable Belfast with the aide of a 48-hr Hop ON/Hop OFF bus + Titanic Entrance ticket. Shelled out for one taxi there on our last night at midnight, and paid a cheapie fee for the bus back to George Best.
