Looking for suggestions on pubs and/or bars/night clubs in Galway. We'd be interested to know where a good spot to drink and/or dance would be, or a unique historic pub with good food and drink? We will be in Galway a few nights in May, however during the day we will be doing day trips to Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher so time spent in actual Galway would be in the evenings. We are there 3 total nights I believe.
It's been quite a few years ago, but we loved Tig Coili pub on the main pedestrian street. It is (or was )well known for its traditional music - live jam sessions most every night. Got into some interesting discussions with locals there.
Here is their website.
There is a good selection along the pedestrian mall downtown. Since Galway is a university town, if school is in session, just listen for places where there's lots of noise. When we were there, we thought the King's Head was a hopping place.
Had a wonderful evening of traditional music at the Crane Bar.
Another vote for the Crane Bar. My recollection is that it started and finished late - almost 1.00 am when we left if memory serves. Pace yourself on the old Guinness there!
We enjoyed An Pucan bar and restaurant. There was live music when we visited.
Crane's is a great local place. Tigh Nora is a fun gin bar. The Salthill across the river is all craft beers from around the world. We found Tribeton Restaurant by accident; we passed it every time we left our hotel and it looked interesting. It's on the 2nd floor. The cocktails are amazing; they make their own syrups and mixers.
