NewWay Car Rental from Dublin airport (May 2025)

I just returned from Ireland and I want to report on my car rental experience for anyone traveling soon. I booked through NewWay for the first time. I'm happy to report that everything worked out great.

We are a family of four. We each traveled with a carry-on and a small backpack so we needed some space for luggage. I reserved a Large SUV (by European standards). The reservation said "Suzuki S-Cross or similar". I also specified an automatic transmission and paid extra for an additional driver (+102.15 Euro). We did travel to Northern Ireland but that's included in the fare, no additional charge.

I booked on March 21, 2025 for a rental beginning on May 15, 2025. The rental was for 8 days. The total charge at the time was $1275.35. That's certainly more than I'd pay in the US but I felt pretty good about that since it includes all insurances. Also, keep in mind it would be considerably cheaper had I rented for 7 days and got the weekly rate (and not specified an SUV, additional driver, automatic, etc.).

Upon landing at Dublin Terminal 2, I went straight to the rental car counters. I was happy to see no line at NewWay. They had my car ready. I presented my credit card for the up front fuel charge (190 Euro refunded when returned with full tank) and that was it. The car was a nice clean Nissan Qashqai which suited our needs perfectly. It was just big enough but not too big. By the way, I used Apple CarPlay for maps exclusively over the entire island and it never missed a beat. I used my standard T-Mobile plan which includes international data but super SLOW speeds. But no problems. No need for a road atlas. I had one and never used it.

When I returned the rental car 8 days later, there were no hassles at all. I saved my fuel receipt as proof that I had filled it up 5km away from the airport but they never asked for it. I drove the Nissan over 1000 miles in 8 days. No issues.

Good report msh.
Was hoping someone would post about their experience with NewWay in Dublin. Do you happen to know what their one-way rental policy is ... for vehicles picked up and dropped off within the Republic?

I forgot to add, there was a transponder in my car so the M50 toll was auto-paid. I will be billed that exact amount. I think that's about $5. All other tolls I paid by cash or card.

Thank you so much for this. We have reserved a Seat Leon Estate car with NewWay for later this year. It is basically a station wagon. We will be 4 adults, but 2 will have larger suitcases. I watched youtube videos on the cargo area, so I hope we will fit.
Your post reassured me we made the right decision about NewWay. It is also helpful to know about the fuel charge and toll transponder.
Perhaps now you can advise on how to pack for 8 days, using only a carryon! LOL

It was actually 11 days! We stayed in Dublin for a couple days at the end after dropping off the rental car.

The secret to packing for an 11 day trip in a carry- on is: only pack for 4 days and have the hotel do your laundry.

Just about any hotel or B&B will do a load of laundry for you for a fee. Early on, I had it done for €20 per load at our B&B in Dingle. Then a few days later, I had it done again when we were in Derry. That hotel charged £17 for a load. That's perhaps a premium to have some clothes washed but it beats hauling around big bags IMO.

Thank you. I will have to look into my clothing choices again. See what I can pack that will survive the dryers!

Just as a comparison, we just got back from a 20 day trip and we rented a "small SUV" from Alamo through Costco (free 2nd driver). The Nissan Juke fit four adults, each with a carry-on roller bag and large knapsack, all fitting in the trunk beneath the little shelf that hides the luggage. No legroom issues. Standard transmission (which both drivers prefer). I used my Visa card's insurance coverage and we were charged for two weeks plus five days for a total of $739. There was a line at both the airport and the remote lot which took 15 minutes. Return was instantaneous. Smoothest rental ever in nine trips to left-handed countries. I did make the reservation many months in advance.

Great report, msh!
We (2 adults) just returned from Ireland as well and rented via NewWay (owned by AvisBudget Ireland). We booked in December for May 14 through May 22 (8 days) at a cost of 412.96 Euros. We traveled 1,686 km. As msh says, all insurance is covered (except if the key is lost/damaged or the car is filled with the wrong fuel). We requested an Intermediate Automatics (Opel Astra or similar) and received a Toyota Corolla hatchback. The car was well used (93,708 km) and not that well maintained (e.g., water rather than windshield washer fluid, needed new wiper blades, no manual in glovebox) but it did handle well and was easy to manoeuvre on the many one-track roads we were on. The pick up and return were straight-forward and the company was very responsive to requests for information.

Since February 2025, those with rental cars do not pay for M50 tolls directly but are billed by the rental agency. The charge is 3.80 Euros for unregistered vehicles plus there is a 1 Euro service charge.

Like msh, we relied on Apple CarPlay, which worked fairly well most of the time. Google Maps doesn't have a good sense of the quality of some of the roads it sent us down ; ) In case anyone is interested, for the 8 days driving and 6 days in Dublin, we used 1.27 GB of data. We used the data extensively for driving and for maps/directions and other minor uses while in Dublin.

Two weeks with two small carry-on bags and no laundry charges! We had a great time, with really good weather (no rain on the west coast for 8 days - perhaps that's a record!). There were showers in Dublin for parts of the day - adds to the charm.

Thank you for letting us know your experience with NewWay. I booked with them earlier this year for our late August trip for 15 days. I have re-checked our rates and they have gone down over €300. They have a great cancellation policy so they advised we cancel original booking and re-book at lower rate. We look forward to our third trip and trying them out.
