We arrived in Doolin yesterday (April 27, 2019) and found, and used, an ATM at Gus O’Connor’s Pub.
Did the pub ATM charge an extra fee - most do?
Oh, probably, I was just glad to get some cash since we are on a walking tour and don’t have that much flexibility. I just mentioned it because both Rick Steves and Lonely Planet say there are no ATMs in Doolin.
It is hard to believe that a privately owned ATM inside a pub is not making a large amount of money by either an inflated exchange rate (even without DCC), or by exorbitant usage charges. Also unlikely that a bank has placed its own ATM inside a pub.
A quick search at Visa indicates this ATM is operated by Euronet (which despite what you might think from its name is a company HQ'd in Kansas). So take care especially of DCC attempts, as well as any fixed fee.
Euronet seem to be taking over many of the in-store ATMs around the country, presumably this one falls into that category. Exchange rate will be determined by your own bank unless you unwisely choose some machine-offered rate.
Someone maybe can update/correct me on this, but my memory says that on our trip last fall I used a Euronet ATM in Munich and discovered afterwards that it had charged me a usage fee. Missed it be cause I was not expecting it.
