We will be traveling in April/May. . . Do we need to make Hotel/Motel/B&B reservations ahead of time or will we be able to find lodging along the way. We normally travel w/o reservations and are aware that we may have to hunt round a little. Thanks
It would be interesting to know where, in France I suppose, you plan to travel.
Might have a bearing on the answers.
Depends on where you are going and what's going on while you are there, in the way of holidays, festivals, etc. Note that your trip will coincide with Easter.
Based on the fact that this is posted under the Ireland thread, I am going to assume that this is where you are going ;)
I think it really depends on your travel style... for me, I always make reservations. For the simple fact that I hate wasting time going from place to place looking for availability. I also like to know what I will be paying. We are also a family of 4, which in Europe, is not always easy to accommodate
You will find many others on here that like being able to books as they go based on where they want to stop for that day.
April/May is not high season yet so vacancy rates are probably better than if you were travelling in the summer months
Enjoy your trip!
I think you will be fine. If you will be doing Dublin at the beginning or end, you might book that lodging, but for the smaller areas availability should not be an issue that time of year, except as someone mentioned, Easter weekend could get interesting.
I would certainly do your investigation ahead of time, I usually have up to 6 options available, maybe 1 or 2 likely ones picked out. Then if things firm up, I might call the day before and reserve...or just show up. Another tactic I have used is to book several stops throughout the trip, leaving gaps between stops, sometimes lengthening a stay, or finding another stop.
