Need itinerary suggestions

Hello all, My travel partner has changed for my trip to Ireland in two weeks, so I now have to come up with an itinerary. I've spend 10 days in Dublin before, but my new travel partner has never been. I'd like to see other cities and some of the countryside, but it will be cold...and cold does not equal fun in my book. It is worthwhile to rent a car and drive the countryside, or just take a train and hit the cities?

We're primarily coming for the U2 show in Dublin. Hotels in the city center were expensive, so I booked one closer to the airport. What is the best way to get to town? Bus? Train? Drive rental car in and park it for the day?

We're not big into history, or mounds with dead people, so venue recommendations for live music (trad and contemporary) are most welcome!

Thank you!

For your Dublin days - Bus is the best way. Avoid bringing a car into the city. There are some nice busses from the airport.

For days outside of Dublin, I would recommend a car and hit the countryside. Even in winter, I love Dingle and would highly recommend it.

As Horace Greeley said (although he was referring to the USA), Go West. As Stephanie says, Dingle is tops, and you'll find plenty of live music (trad, contemporary, and contemporary trad) there!

You may already have made travel arrangements, but the Shannon Airport is closer to Dingle than is Dublin's, so if you could fly in and/or out of Shannon, perhaps that would save you time and miles?!?

Galway, another proper city, could offer a counterpoint to Dublin, as well.

Thank you both! I will put your advice to use.
