NEED HELP with 13 nights itinerary

Traveling to Ireland with my husband and two teens in June for 13 nights. My father-in-law Lives in Co. Limerick and we’ll be spending half of our trip with him. I have spent countless nights planning this trip. Clocked an obscene number of hours reading reviews on TripAdvisor and of course have read RS Ireland cover to cover. I wish we could see more of the country but as it is I feel like I’ll be doing a lot of driving so have focused on the West.

  1. Fly into Dublin from Miami
  2. Dublin
  3. Drive to Glendalough via Wicklow Mtns. Spend the day hiking. Spend the night in Kilkenny. 4,. Kilkenny 5-7. Leave Kilkenny, drive to Newcastle West where my father-in-law lives. Visit Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle along the way. Spend 3 nights. Visit Adare Manor and other local sights.
  4. Drive to Dingle town, spend 2 nights.
  5. Dingle
  6. Drive to Killarney, tour Muckross House, continue on to Kenmare. Spend 2 nights in Kenmare.
  7. Beara Peninsula
  8. Leave Kenmare. Drop off Father-in-law in Newcastlewest on way to Bunratty for evening medieval dinner. Spend 1 night.
  9. Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and ????? Spend last night ???? Was thinking Kinvara.
  10. Head to Dublin for late afternoon flight home.

So not sure how to spend the last full day. Should we stay last night in say Kinvara or spend a second night in Bunratty and spend last day touring Cliffs, Doolin and Burren? I really wanted to get up to Connamara to go to Clifden ( I was there 25 years ago and loved it) and Kylemore Abby but we just don’t have enough time.

Is there anywhere we could stop for say an hour on our way to the Dublin airport?

Thanks for your feedback!

I’m somewhat confused by your question. Are you asking where you should stay your last night or what you should do on the way to the airport? I personally am a nervous Nelly and like to stay within a hour of the airport the night before my departure. So I would consider staying in Trim, for example, or returning the car the night before and staying in Dublin. Trim could also be a place to visit on the way to the airport. Either way, remember you’ll need time to return the car, clear Irish TSA and US immigration before getting to your gate.

The drive from Kinvara to the Dublin Airport takes a little more than two hours, so if you leave early enough you should good (depending on when your flight leaves). Along the way, Clonmacnoise might be a good choice for a stop (Trim would take more than an hour).

Alternately, you could visit Dungaire Castle, which is right there in Kinvara, before you head out to the airport.
