Need help: planning to be in Galway and want to see the Kerry area.

I am trying to figure out this part of our Ireland trip. Will be in Galway and want to get to Killarney area to see the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. We have a total of two days and then need to get back to Dublin on the third day. Any suggestions? Rent car, hire a tour? Need transportation and would love to hear the history of the area. Most cost effective and easiest way???

That is a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time. The drive from Galway to Killarney is easily 3.5 hours. The drive from Killarney to Dublin is easily 4.5 hours. Most people take one entire day to drive the Dingle Peninsula and likewise, one entire day to drive the Ring of Kerry. So if I were you, I would chose either Dingle or Kerry and not try to do both. Driving would be the most efficient use of your time and depending on how large your group is, perhaps most cost effective. Driving would also give you the flexibility of accessing those areas the tour buses cannot reach and to stop and walk around those areas which most interest you. If you don't want to rent a car, you could take public transit to Killarney and then hire a guide to drive. I have no idea how much that would cost.
