Navica Test

I had planned on bringing a Navica Covid test. One takes the test and you are monitor on line as you test. THe results are recorded on the Navica App which I assume you show at the airport. Is this acceptable?

Download the Navica app before you leave, and establish your account and password beforehand.
The proctored tests takes 15 minutes; you will have results in another 5-10 minutes, emailed to you. Some of the airlines are set up so that you can download your test results into their system; if not you will have the results and QR code on your phone. Take screenshots of these so you don't have to take the time to open the apps at the airport.
We found it all very easy, and have used the proctored tests on two different trips.

I would also suggest watching a YouTube video of somebody taking the test. It’s boring to watch but it gives you a good idea of what you’ll go through. The first time took me a little bit of time, but then the second time I used one it was a breeze.

Thanks all. A previous posts had complained it had not worked but did not explain why. I have already done a "dry run."

So you have to use up one of the tests to do a dry run? Or how do you do that?

I bought a two pack of the Binax now Covid test to be used with the Navica app. I was intending to use one for me and one for my granddaughter. The question I have is that I understand you have to be witnessed opening the box of the tests. This would mean that only one of us could use the box, which, nevertheless, contains two tests. Could someone who has used these tests clear this up for me?

The individual kits are sealed. Are you sure they are the proctored tests? They usually come in a 3-pack or a 6-pack.
We have used them twice and it was very easy.

Sasha,
I had to test due to an exposure and I jusst chose to use one of my Navica tests, I had others, just so I would be familiar with the process. It is not necessary.

One more thing to consider. These Navica/eMed tests are covered by insurance. It is federal law. I received 100% reimbursement from my health insurance provider. Just another reason to use these tests instead of the airpot laboratory tests.

The NAVICA monitored test which I received came with only one test in each individually sealed box. The test was easy to administer. The person doing the monitoring was polite and professional. Including the 15 minute wait time for the results to show on the test strip it only took about 25 minutes. The monitor read the strip and the results were available very quickly on the app.

Note: The monitored test box that I received had an imprinted red band across the front with instructions to not open until told to do so (by the monitor).

Patricia - I'm pretty sure you have the wrong Binax test. There is one they sell in stores that has 2 tests in one kit and unfortunately that one does not satisfy the US testing requirement. The proctored ones are individually sealed - one box, one test and one QR code per person.

Ellen - depending on your airline - you might have one more step. For Delta, we upload the test results to their Fly Ready system, which speeds things up at check-in at the airport.

I believe my Navica tests were the ones the government sent me and
there were only 2.

The free tests sent by the gov. are not the proctored tests needed for travel. The proctored tests are only sold on-line. You need the ones that say “with eMed telehealth services.” Optum is one place to order them from. They come 1 test to a box. Do not open the box until instructed by the proctor.

https://store.optum.com/shop/products/abbott-binaxNOW-COVID-19-ag-emed-at-home-test-kit-3-pack/

And to clarify, the tests are Abbott BinaxNOW. Navica is the app you use to display your results.

Crane,
I deleted my comment as it may be misleading.
I believe the Abbott test I got from the government (they are both gone) only had 1 in a box, as you stated.
But, I now have Abbott tests that I bought that have 2 in a box. It says use the Navica app on the box. It uses the words "report your results". So I now remember the one monitored test I bought had a band across the box. So these tests which I just purchased for our trip in 2 weeks will not qualify?

Ellen the correct Binax box has a big "do not open" statement across the front of it (shown in picture at this link) and an advertisement for EMed services. If it does not say that on the box, then it is a regular at home test and you cannot use it for travel. My airline (Delta) offers this link for using other types of home tests with an added on proctor service.

Ellen, where did you buy your tests from? The Abbott tests that come 2 in a box that are sold in pharmacies are not tests that can be used for travel. Do check the link provided by CL which will show you what the travel approved Binax test looks like. It sounds to me like the test you have is not one you can used for travel, but I can’t say for sure without seeing it. I’d hate for you to find out later that you have the wrong test.

As far as I know, Abbott tests that are approved for travel can only be purchased on-line from emed or optum. Last time I ordered them, they were delivered in 2 days. So, there’s still time to order if you think you have the wrong test.

I also wanted to add that you can probably tell by the price. If you bought a 2-pack for $20, that’s not the correct test. Two of the proctored tests cost $70 or you can get three for $100. The cost is more because you are also paying for the monitoring and sending of results.
