National Museum of Ireland Country Life

Rick ignores this free interpretive museum in Castlebarr (Wexford) which combined history with material culture. Displays, many are interactive, show how the Irish rural people survived for centuries with skimpy natural resources. They showed great ingenuity in use grasses, reeds, thatch to make all sorts of objects. Various crafts people were discussed with interviews, photos and letters. Nice park like setting with art installations outside. A little greenhouse added to charm.
Nice cafe and gift shop. Appropriate for children.

Hi bonkey, I see the museum in County Mayo, near Castlebarr, is that where you mean? It looks very interesting, and I have made a note of it for our next trip, which at this point we feel will be Ireland.

As for Rick ignoring stuff, he does ignore a lot, much to the chagrin of folks who go there and then see that RS doesn't give it the time of day. However, I feel that the win with RS is that if he pays attention to a location, he really pays attention to it right down to granular detail. Many travel guides want to be all things to all people, it's a preference thing, I suppose.

Cheers, and thanks for posting this-slàinte!
