Of course there are many places to hear music, but we did stumble on one place that we really liked. On Sundays around 7:30 or so at Dudley’s Pub in the Liberties, a group of 2 musicians (pipes and fiddle) started playing, then joined by a guitarist and pretty soon another piper. Later a banjo player and a drummer joined in. Great music. Another observer told us that many in the group were from a band called The Sausages of Ireland and that their Sunday session at the pub was a wind up to a performance they are giving at a music venue on Thursday. She also said that musicians gather every Sunday at Dudley’s for a session.
Thanks for the information! On our last trip to Dublin, we attended a fantastic session of Trad music at The Cobblestone on a Sunday, but on our next trip we’ll need to go to Dudley’s.
The Brazen Head has a long running Sunday session from 3 to 6 or so. It gets pretty crowded in the room with the players.
That Brazen Head session is heavily attended by locals who come in from the suburbs for it. A lot of them stand up and sing "their" songs, and it's well worth the price of your many beers.
we were ar the Brazen two days ago and it was too crowded to enjoy. get there early!
Thanks for this! We are doing the RS Best of Ireland next year and will have a few days in Dublin before the tour, so I've added this to my list of things I want to do.
