Thank you Stephen. I had thought of staying one night in Killarney after Kilkenny too.
Our tentative itinerary is:
Arrive Dublin 21 September and spend 2 nights. We want to see Book of Kells, The Gaol, Dublin Castle, and do the Evensong at the Cathedral. We also hope to do the Pub Crawl.
Leave Dublin 23 September, pick up our car, and drive to Kilkenney. We want to spend time at Powerscourt gardens, Glendalough, and arrive in Kilkenny for the night.
Leave Kilkenney 24 September and see Rock of Cashel and Kilkenny castle, and head to Killarney.
Stay in Killarney on the 24th, see the Muckross House.
Leave Killarney on 25 September for Dingle.
Stay in Dingle for 3 nights.
Leave Dingle on 28 September heading to Galway. Stop on the way to see either the Cliffs of Moher or the Burren.
Stay 2 nights in Galway, to see what we missed on our drive up from Dingle. If we have time, maybe do the Arans, if the weather permits.
Leave Galway on 30 September and drive to Trim and stay 2 nights so we can see Trim Castle and Bru Na Boinne, Newgrange.
Leave Trim 2 October to head to the airport, drop off our car, and stay near the airport, as we fly back to the States on 3 October.
Our last European vacation was so full with an agenda, that even though we saw a lot, we didn't have much down time. This time we want to see as much as possible, but still have time to stop on the road, if we see something we want to explore, and not feel pushed for time.
Should we shave a day off Dingle and add it to Galway, or even to our first stop in Kilkenney? We want to see Rock of Cashel and the Kilkenney Castle too. Will the above itinerary give us enough time to see the sights at a comfortable pace so we can take in all the beauty of Ireland?
