How much money does a person need to have for a 7 day group tour in Ireland. I’ve read that people mostly use a credit card or apple wallet.
You mean cash? Last month, we were in Cork and Dublin and never had or used any cash. This caught up to us when we wanted to ride the bus. Rather than search for an ATM, we just bought Leap Cards. Last summer, we did get some Euros (for the Republic, GBP for Northern Ireland), but we mostly used credit cards. If you're on a group tour, you should ask the tour guide, who should have the latest intel on the places you'll actually be going. Best way to get cash is to use a bank-affiliated ATM in town (i.e., not at the airport).
On the 14 day Ireland, I paid cash for a 8 euro ceramic sheep in a cute tiny cash only shop near Bushmill's; otherwise credit card/wallet.
On most of our trips, payment is always by phone tapping (Google pay, in my case), but there is sometimes an outlier that insists on cash, typically a B&B or a boat tour, but they indicate the requirement on the reservation email.
Thank you for the information!
To the poster just ahead (scalespaul82): I think the person (KD) who purchased the ceramic sheep would know what country they were in. However, YOU might be enlightened to learn there is a Bushmill's Distillery in Ireland. I would bet "real money" that is where the purchase of the sheep was made. Ya think?
It will depend on your activities. I was in Dublin, Co. Donegal and Derry last month and needed both some Euros and GBP for a few last minute tour guides. But all shopping, restaurants and tourist attractions take credit card/Apple Pay.
