Does anyone know if we arrive before the visitor center opens in the morning if we can visit the sites?
Thanks!
If talking about Glendalough the answer is yes. We made it a point to arrive about an hour early and were able to enjoy the place at our leisure before the center opened and the tour buses started arriving. Only negative is that the bathrooms are inside the building...
ARE you talking about Glendalough??
Susan
Yes...and thank you! Sorry for the tardy reply;).
It's mighty fine place, and you can roam about at your leisure. If you have the time, there are hikes into the hills as well.
Best wishes.
Glendalough is in Wicklow National Park, one of the biggest parks in Ireland.
The hikes/walks are fantastic - so if you have time, check them out! Each one is color-coded so you can easily pick a distance that's doable. There is a fantastic waterfall along the route of two of the walks.
One, I think the white path, has wooden boardwalks over heather bogs and is beautiful! But it took me five hhours....
There's also - besides the tourist center - a hotel. I watched the All-Ireland final there one day! It's a good spot for a member of the party to rest, if they're not a walker.
Enjoy!
