Does anyone recommend this on the way from Kinsale to Dingle? There is a light house and footbridge I believe you can cross and is on the Wild Atlantic Way tour. Seems out of the way, but wondering if it is worth it.
Lingering in southwest County Cork is always a good idea! I've not been all the way out to the lighthouse, but love the area around Lough Hyne and the River Ilen. The rolling hills of this cattle country are unique to the island, once you leave you'll be in sheep country for the rest of your trip.
It's so hard to say whether something is 'worth' it to another person. What's worth it to me may not be worth it to you. When I went there it was with a group of lighthouse enthusiasts touring the lighthouses of Ireland. So, yes, it was very worth it to me. Mizen Head is often shrouded in fog as it was when we were there so it was very atmospheric, listening to the fog signals and barely being able to see down when walking across the bridge. I love fog so I loved it. If I went back to that area with someone who hadn't been there, I would definitely go back and take them there - and hope for fog. I have seen the pictures of it on a bright clear day and it looks very scenic so it would be nice either way.
