After 3 days of driving, I still had to yell “curb” constantly. Husband really struggled with the other side of the road. This time I’d like to minimize driving as much as possible. Build some public transportation in to give him a break. Is there a good place for a home base for the major sights Rick identifies for Northern Ireland from which would maybe take dome day trips?
The good news is that public transport in Northern Ireland is really quite good compared to the rest of the island.
I would spend 2 nights in Belfast (no car needed here) and then take the train to Coleraine. Walk through the station and onto the waiting bus. It will take you to Port Royal, Dunluce Castle, Port Ballintrae, Bushmills, Giant's Causeway and beyond.
Our absolute favorite hotel in all of Ireland is the Bayview Hotel in Port Ballintrae. If you get a view room out over the village harbor you will not be disappointed. The bus stops right outside the door. It couldn't be easier. You could stay 3 nights here easily. Giant's Causeway is a good walk over the headland or you can just ride the bus there.
