I m looking at spending some time in Meath near Temple or round that area. I am looking at exploring my family history there. I have been on Airbnb and there are a few places. I would like to be walking distance to meals and only need a comfortable bed for 5 nights. Any suggestions?
I'm Irish and know County Meath quite well, but I haven't heard of Temple. Can you let us know where it is - where is it near - and maybe we can help.
Thank you for getting back to me! I am just going off the genealogy information I have that showed my great grandfather was born in Templepatrick, Westmeath. Perhaps that means a different place? I guess I should have put the whole name in! Any help would be so helpful. I would like to be able to stay in or near the place he is from and see if I can't locate some areas they may have lived.
OK, so Meath and Westmeath are two different places. They are neighbouring counties, but you don't want to end up in the wrong place! I Googled "Templepatrick Westmeath" and see that it is a parish about 18 km from a town called Mullingar. You will probably want to stay in Mullingar. It's a good sized town with restaurants, pubs and hotels to choose from. You will definitely need a car to go to Templepatrick as I imagine public transport will either be non-existent or just too infrequent to be of any use. You should take a look at Irish genealogy.ie. It's the official government website and has lots of good resources. You might find out more there than in Templepatrick itself because if it's only a small parish, who knows what is left there now. Good luck with your search and let me know if I can answer any other questions for you!
