Has anyone spent any time in the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark? I've been researching our next trip to Northern Ireland and the northern parts of the Republic of Ireland and this area looks interesting. Would you stay in Enniskillen or would you base yourself somewhere else? My husband and I enjoy these types of locations and would probably spend a couple of days exploring what the park has to offer.
We visited the caves back a few years. They were interesting, as was the nearby 'Stairway to Heaven' trail. Great views. I don't know if the park itself warrants a couple of days, but the surrounding area has enough to keep your interest.
We stayed in a B&B just outside Enniskillen for 2 nights, enjoyed the town and Castle. My family is from County Fermanagh and I set up an appointment with the genealogist whose offices are in the Castle, they were extremely helpfull, helped me locate where their farm had been and I was able to check out the general area where they lived back in the 1800's.
Sligo is about an hour away, I think that would be the closest other base town. Stayed there also and enjoyed it.
Visited Ireland six times, with the 7th canceled due to covid, so I am biased, but I think you'll have a great time if you don't try and cram in to much. Some of my best memories are when you put the map/gps aside and take the backroads.
